Dear Trudy & Family....
We shall always remember the great times we had here in Gerry's beloved desert oasis (Scottsdale, Az.) He was a wonderful conversationalist with a smorgasboard of experiences from which to draw. Thoughtful and gregarious....he was truly a delight. Though we have not seen you in such a long time we always looked forward to your emails and news of the family. No doubt Gerry was a great Canadian patriot but we so appreciated his interest in all that is America and for his support for our president amist all the negative press coming from the liberal media up there. We would happily award Gerry an honorable U.S. citizenship and know that he would be proud of both his countries!
Like you, we will continue to draw on wonderful memories of a fine human being who made a meaningful impact on all those with whom he interfaced.
Thanks, Gerry, for a great ride!
Love, Dick and Mimi Rice

Dear Trudy & Family:
Again, I am so sorry and deeply saddened to hear of Gerry's passing. I am sorry I am not near to offer more support Trudy.
I have some wonderfuly memories of our group get togethers -- Gerry delighted in bringing up a controversial topic and knew that a very heated debate would ensue. Gerry had a wonderful sense of humour and always had a warm greeting and smile. Gerry also got a great kick out of mimicking my accent.
Sadly I cannot be with you at the memorial but I would like to say to Gerry "G'day mate, until we meet again".
love Beverley

Dear Trudy, Carol, Delores, Wayne & all of your families -
We are thinking of you all as you try to cope with the exteme shock & sadness of Gerry's sudden death.
Whenever we hear the name Gerry Patterson, we immediately think of the word "fun". When he was at the Howitt Christmas party, we always had alot of laughs. He was a very natural entertainer. He could take an ordinary moment & turn it into something really funny. All of us will always remember his rendition of "I'm a Little Teapot" by Susie Patterson. We also got a kick out of all the comments that were fired back & forth between Gerry & his sisters. He certainly made quite an impression on our kids with all his antics.
The world has lost this great spark of a man. It is now up to the rest of us to carry on the legacy of laughter & fun that he has left with us.
We hold all of you in our thoughts & prayers.......
Jim & Cheryl

Hi Trudy and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Gerry passing away. I know it was very
sudden and unexpected. I understand that there is no good time and it is
never easy. I am thinking of all of you.
I knew Uncle Gerry from the Christmas parties at the Howitt's house. I am
sure 'Suzy Patterson' impressions have come up more than a few times in
people's thoughts. What an amazing showman Uncle Gerry was.
There was also the time he brought Darryl Sittler the famous hockey player.
My brother (Adam) was on cloud nine for about 5 years after that.
I also had the really great opportunity to go to the Jackson 5 'Victory
Tour' concert with Sarah, Mr. and Mrs. Howitt, and Uncle Gerry. We parked
somewhere outside of the downtown core and took the subway to the venue
which was a big deal in itself as I was a 'country kid'. I remember Uncle
Gerry doing the moonwalk on the subway platform. It was very crowded and
people were definitely checking him out- I think he even got some cheers.
At the concert Sarah and I were on Mr. Howitt's and Uncle Gerry's shoulders.
They must have been exhausted by the end of it! Whenever the 'name the
best concert you have ever been to' comes up in conversation I always say
that one.
Take care of yourselves and each other,
Sarah VanPeteghen (maiden name Broughton)

We had the pleasure of meeting Gerry three times only, all at Carol and Dick's home, and on each occasion, we nearly split our sides laughing at him and with him. He was one funny guy. What joy he must have given to those who had the honour of his company longer. We know he will be sadly missed and our warmest thoughts are with all the family at this time.
Most sincerely, John and June lenz

We were so sad to hear the news of Gerry's passing. What wonderful happy memories we all have of this hilarious, intelligent, outgoing and warm guy. We will always remember Gerry the "teapot", the "square dancer", the "story teller", the "Christmas caroller" and the "preacher man". How great it was to enjoy the interaction between Gerry, Norm, and Bob at the annual Howitt Christmas party. Our thoughts and prayers are with his whole family....he will be missed.

What a wonderful, fun-loving person Gerry was. He always was the hit of the party - especially the annual Howitt Christmas affairs. My sons, Jamie and Shawn, were saddened to hear of Gerry's death, as he was an important part in their growing up years. I'll never forget his sparkling eyes and his rendition of "I'm a little teapot". He and my late husband, Norm, were always such kidders and I'm sure they're enjoying a few laughs together now.

To The Patterson Family:
My heartfelt condolences are extended to all of you for the loss of Gerry.
Although our paths crossed infrequently since I left the newspaper business in 1984, I fondly remember my many, many dealings with Gerry in my 16-year career with The Toronto Telegram and The Toronto Sun. Always available, always cheerful, always forthright, always willing to paint things in a clear and correct manner, he made my job so much easier. I shall always appreciate that.
I consider him a pioneer among sports agents in that he long ago realized the importance of his clients not only dealing with the media but doing so in a professional manner. That is truly reflected in the list of clients he kept - all first class, wonderful people who always conveyed respect to have Gerry by their side.
Even during the times of labour unrest in the CFL, he represented the CFLPA with dignity, never forgetting that the media had a job to do and deadlines to meet.
Gerry leaves a great legacy and he will be missed.
Sincerely,
John Iaboni
