Hachey, George Joseph After battling numerous illnesses over the past years, passed away at the age of 79 on June 17, 2005 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, joining his beloved wife Ruth (nee: Levy) who entered the kingdom of heaven December 23rd 1991. George leaves behind his son Mark Hachey and his sister Genevieve Hachey. George will be fondly remembered by his soon to be daughter-in-law Bonnie, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and many friends. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters Lawrence, Basil, Bob, Marion and Beatrice Hachey. George maintained a strong connection to his heritage where he was born in the small coal mining town of Joggins, Nova Scotia in 1925. George lost his father to a mining accident at a very early age. He served his country in World War II and upon the end of the war left for Ontario to start a new life as a resident of St. Catharines, where he remained until his passing. George and Ruth Hachey had a baby boy Gary Hachey in 1952 who passed away due to medical complications at the age of 6 days, but were blessed with a second child Mark Hachey in 1969. George worked most of his life as a foreman at Georgian Pacific Paper Mill in Thorold up to his retirement at age 65. George is resting at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St. where a service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday at 6:00pm, with cremation to follow. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A legion service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Special thanks to Doctors, Nurses and Staff, at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, and the other medical offices that looked after his care and all the many friends and neighbours for their loving support and kindness.
