Obituary of Thomas Symington
SYMINGTON THOMAS After a lengthy illness and courageous battle with cancer, Thomas Symington passed away at the Shaver Hospital on Friday June 3rd, 2005. He will be sadly missed by his wife Marian; lovingly remembered by his daughter Ethel Wiles, (friend Tom), loving granddad to Heather and David Wiles; Sisters Irene Adams (John), Audrey Blakeley (Walter), Shirley McCoard (Ian); nieces Linda Filion (Serge), Fiona, Audrey Jr. and Shirley Jr., Michelle Gemmell (David); and nephews James Andrews (Pamela), Martin Monney (Gillian).Predeceased by wife Margaret (1982), son David (1987)), mother Ella (1991) & father James Symington (1938), sister Ethel (1957), sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette (2002) and David Monney (1995). He will also be missed by several stepchildren; Carolyn Mitchell, Deborah Deuel (Stephen) & Gary Shields (Linh); loving step-Granddad to Michael & Mathew Mitchell, Jason & Greg Kinnear, Brian & Barry (Natalie) Bakker. Tom worked at General Motors of Canada for over 30 years. He was a member of CAW Local 199 and was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 350 and a past member of the Grantham Lions Club.
Tom is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. St. Catharines, visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Legion service will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held in St. John's Anglican Church, Main St. Port Dalhousie on Tuesday at 11am. Cremation to follow. Memorial remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Shaver Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
