Obituary of Harold Johnson

JOHNSON HAROLD, (March 3, 1913) Died peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Hospital after a short illness. He leaves behind his beloved wife Mary Johnson (48 years) and his stepchildren James Meyers (Elaine) of Erie, Pa., Karen Maltais (Laurier) and Joyce Borbely (Peter) of St. Catharines, as well as his sier and friend Helen McKenzie. Also survived by grandchildren Christopher Meyers,Nicholas Meyers both of Denver Colorado, Valerie Balogna of Erie, Pa and Anita Simpson (P.J.) of Greensburg, Pa, John Craig Maltais (Elizabeth ) of Welland. Michael Schreindorfer of Niagara Falls and Tracey Roblin (Brian) of Niagara on the Lake. Much loved Uncle of Renferth McKenzie (Allison), Sybil Freeman (Glenn), Bertha Campbell (Jack), Margaret Turner (Doug), Fred McKenzie (Jeannie), Brian (Cheryl), Donald McKenzie and Margie Russell. Harold is survived by 12 great grandchildren and several great nephews and nieces, his former son in law Martin Schreindorfer. Predeceased by his parents Albin and Isabel Johnson, his sisters Florence Stothart and Margaret Russell, his nephews Carl Johnson and John McKenzie (Bev). Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, he moved to St. Catharines, after serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII. He was employed at Dana Corporation. Harold was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. For the past five years Harold resided at St. Catharines Place Retirement Home with his wife, Mary. Harold is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. where family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Funeral Service to celebrate Harold's life will be held in The Church of the Good Shepherd, 359 Grantham Ave. St. Catharines on Monday at 11:00am. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 to 11am. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to the Alzheimer's Society or the Church of the Good Shepherd would be appreciated by the family.
