Obituary of Cecilia Shewchenko
SHEWCHENKO, Cecilia (born August 7, 1926)
Died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 14th, 2006. Her final weeks were filled with flowers, photos, music and birds at the feeder. Her desire to die with dignity was supported with love by her family and many friends, as well as the compassionate care of the nursing & home care team. Cecilia is now dancing in the stars with her beloved husband Walter.
Cecilia embraced life with vivacious joy, curiosity and boundless energy. She treated people with kindness, touching everyone by her generous heart, positive attitude and … her cooking! "Food is love."
She was also a very strong and determined woman. Shaped by her tomboy childhood in Dolina, Poland; tested by WW2 and the responsibilities of starting a family and a new life in Canada. She lived life fully and with great humour - to the end.
Oksana, Peter and Tony are very proud to be her children and will miss her very much. As will her grandchildren: Krystian, Andrew, Tammy, Tera and Max.
Cremation has taken place.
Cecilia's family will receive visitors at St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Rd., St. Catharines on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from 10am to11am. A memorial service will follow at the church at 11am. A reception will follow at 16 Dixie Rd, St. Catharines, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care would be appreciated by the family.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Cecilia
