Obituary of Gertrude Baker

BAKER, Gertrude (Rosie) "there are two ways to spread light: to be a candle or the mirror that reflects it." Our family's candle peacefully passed away at Versacare Centre, St. Catharines on Thursday May11, 2006 in her 88th year. Predeceased by her loving husband, Vincent (Dib) in 1983 and her son, Michael in 1991. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Betsey) of Oakville, son Nicholas of Orlando, Florida, daughter-in-law Deborah (McGowan) of Burlington and son in law Richard Crooker of Toronto. Beloved grandmother of Matthew Crooker of Toronto, Vanessa Crooker (Kier McManus) of Toronto, Michael Baker of Montreal and Kathleen (Katie) Baker of Burlington. Gertrude is also survived by her special great granddaughter, Elise Camille. She will also be missed by JoAnn Argentieri of Hornell NY, James Patti of Hilton Head, Philip Patti of Rochester and Judy Wright of Thorold. A life long resident of St. Catharines, Gertrude was involved in fundraising for the building of Hotel Dieu Hospital. She was also very involved in her parish and was secretary to Bishop Thomas McCarthy. She was one of the founding members of the S.T.U.D.Y club and treasured the years of friendship these ladies shared.
