To the Tobin Family,
Your husband, father, brother....what a remarkable person. He was my grade 5 teacher at St. Joseph's. I still saw him around St. Catharines here and there, always remembering my name and memories of the past. Be assured that Mr. Tobin will forever live in my heart and I am sure many others who had the privilege to meet him and get to know him. My sympathy to you all.

We first met Mr. Tobin during his retirement year (about 10 years ago) when he taught our son in grade 5 at St. Alfred School. He was a very compassionate and dedicated teacher. He even taught his students to dance the macarena! We will fondly remember his bow ties, and his orange socks with red shoes!

I am so sorry for your loose. Mr. Tobin was my grade 4 and 6 teacher at St.Joseph school. He was the best. A great influence and a great motivator. I have seen him from time to time over the years and he spoke to me just as he did when we were in school. He never missed a beat and he always carried himself with grace and dignity. He loved his family and spoke of you all the time. He taught us to sing Silent Night in his native South African language...I loved that and I still remember most of the words to this day.
Mr. Tobin I will miss you and you will always be my favorite teacher for always.
Sincerely,
Paula Iafrate Grond

Dear Mrs Tobin and family,
Please know that Mr Tobin was a very influential person in my life. He was my grade 5 teacher at St Nicholas School. He had a very different teaching method from any person that I've encountered in my 20 years of being a student. I still remember (and use!) his idioms that he taught us. He had a list of current trivia that we knew inside and out by the time we had finished that year. I'll never forget where Margaret Thatcher lived, or who performed the first human heart transplant. He was a very kind, fair and funny person.
I have thought of him often over the years. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. Know that he will always be thought of very fondly by myself, my brother and my parents - who, thanks to my brother, got to know him VERY well!!! He'd laugh if he heard that!!
Take care of yourselves. Melissa Bernard

Dear Mrs.Tobin & family, My thoughts are with you. I was honored enough to have Mr.Tobin as a teacher-he taught the Gr.5/6 class at St.Nicholas his 1st yr there(I was in Gr.6). I'll never forget Mr.Tobin's famous line "Sit dine on your posterior!"& his famous "Tobin Stick". I remember at the end of the year he said he was retiring, but he sounded so serious, we all ran and bought him a gift. It was so funny & he was worth giving a gift to anyway. Mr. Tobin also taught my sister, Jennifer-only she was extra lucky>he taught her for two grades. My sister+I bumped into Mr.Tobin at Facer St Avondale+ he still remembered us. Mr.Tobin had a wonderful sense of humour & made it worth while going to school. He, to this day, is my most favorite teacher of all! If only there could be more teachers like Mr. Tobin-then every child would look forward to going to class and learning-and would have memories that would last a lifetime! Stephanie & Jennifer Briand.

Gail and I will miss the subtle humour of Lewis and his desire to enrich the people he knew.
We are especially grateful to Lewis for the care of our daughter Tracey as a student at St. Joseph and his continued interest in her life as a wife and mother.
Lewis will be missed by us and many people who loved him.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I, too had Mr. Tobin as my grade 5 teacher at Joseph's School on Facer St. He would always speak to me in his Afrikaans dutch. I remember him encouraging me into public speaking and had me attend the Kiwanis festivals. He enjoyed me reading the 23rd Psalm and I can still hear him asking me to recite it whenever he passed on. I will be thinking of this tomorrow I hope that you will find comfort in the fact that Mr. Tobin was extremely influential in many young lives and his presence will be missed.

Dear Mavis, Hilton, Russell and Family:
In God's plan, every life is long enough. Although we might wish for a longer life, God knows better. While we're shaking our heads in disbelief over the loss of a loved one, our loved ones are lifting their hands in worship. While we're mourning at their grave, they're marvelling in Heaven. While we're questioning God, they're praising God.

It is with much disbelief that I read of the world's loss of Mr.Tobin. I would like to offer my prayers and deepest sympathies to those in his family so that they may find peace in their lives after such a great loss. I have always seen Mr.Tobin as a man full of life. He was my grade 6 teacher at St. Joseph's School and has had a profound effect on my life. If I were to write a novel of my life, His lessons and the time I spent with him would take a whole chapter on it's own. All of my classmates loved him and still, when we are together, mention his name when speaking of good times in our lives. He has always shown respect for his students and has gone above and beyond his duty as teacher by stepping into the role of leader and mentor. Lewis has taught us many valuable LIFE lessons and is often thought of. The world has lost a great man and shall never be the same.

Dear Tobin Family, Mr. Tobin was my grade six teacher at St. Joseph's in the 7o's. He was very much loved by all the kids in our class. Mr. Tobin worked hard to let our grade 6 class have the first graduation dinner and dance ever at St. Joseph's!!! (I graduated with Linda Evangelista the renowned model) All of his students, including myself are now in their 40's. I, myself was very honoured to have Mr. Tobin at my wedding!! He had a great impact on my school years, he was the best!! I remember the odd rides to school,if the weather was bad, in his little red honda! He had a great sense of humour and a quick temper if you were fooling around in class (not me though). I would see him at the london arms where my parents (Dave and Gail Morris) often would go for dinner and hang with friends. I would always get a warm hug and hello. He will be sadly missed, I will never forget the gentle, caring, warm hearted, incredible teacher that made a difference for me! God bless! Sincerely, Tracey Schwarz

Dear Mrs.Tobin and Family,When I think of Mr.Tobin I have nothing but fond memories. He was my grade five teacher at St.Nicholas school and taught me more then just the basics of the grade five curriculum.I will always remember learning about the members of Parliament and other world issues at the time. He made learning interesting and fun. He had a great sense of humor and would make fun of my last name any chance he would get. My last name is Carlson and he would call me Stephanie Carson and ask how my uncle Johnny Carson was. He will be sadly missed and always remembered with a smile. Sincerely,
Stephanie Carlson

I was so sorry to hear that one of my favourite teachers had passed away. Mr. Tobin was my Grade 5 teacher and my track and field coach. That was 32 years ago and whenever I am asked who my favourite teacher was, Mr. Tobin is at the top of the list. My sincere sympathy to all of his family.
