Obituary of Helena Valeria Holierhoek
HOLIERHOEK HELENA (Leny) V. nee: DeJonge (1935-2006) It is with great sadness that the family of Leny Holierhoek announce her sudden passing at the St. Catharines General Hospital, on Friday March 24, 2006. Beloved wife, mother and oma, Leny is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, John; children Alodia (Joerg Schulte), Hubert (Kathy Pendergast), Fred (Susan) and Adrienne (Kevin Gowan); grandchildren Aurelia, Kara, Joshua, Riley, Colin and Evan; her sisters Corrie DeJonge, Valerie Haslam and brother Adrian DeJonge. Predeceased by her parents Fred and Sophie Elodie DeJonge and brother Leonard DeJonge.
Her heart and soul were devoted to her family, as well as to the issues of social justice and the environment. This was reflected in her contributions to: Girl Guides of Canada, Catholic Women's League, Development and Peace, Ten Days for World Development, Fair Trade Coffee through Latin American Support Group, Brock University Campus Ministries, Bruce Trail Association and Niagara Escarpment Commission.
Leny is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Tuesday at 10:30am. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church at 11:00am. Cremation to follow. Visiting hours are Monday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 8:30pm. Memorial remembrances to the Warehouse of Hope would be appreciated by the family.
