Obituary of Edith Shanahan

Shanahan (Duffy) Edith (Sally) R.N., nee Aldred on Wednesday December 28, 2005 peacefully at Maple Park Lodge in Fort Erie. Sally Shanahan, 91 years of age, dear mother of Connie and Pat Duffy of Thorold, George and Carol Duffy of Toronto, Jerry and Maureen Shanahan of St. Catharines, Maureen and Carl Russell of Airdrie Alta., loved grandma of Michael, Janet, Mary-Anne, Mark, James, Jennifer, Christopher, Debbie, Lisa, Gray, Matthew, Lauren, Paul, Timothy, Stacey-Lee and 14 great grandchildren. Sally was predeceased by her husbands, George Duffy (1940) and Gerard Shanahan (1981), her daughter Mary Duffy (1943) and her grandson Michael Duffy (1988). Sally was a veteran of WW 11 serving with the WRENS of the Royal Navy, was a founding member of the War Brides, I.O.D.E., St. Mary's Primrose Seniors' Club, West St. Catharines Seniors Club, Catholic Women's League of St. Marys, President of C.U.P.E Local (Seniors' Homes Niagara Chapter) Senior Citizens Consultants as well as a past president of each of those organizations, a past secretary of the Regional Nurses Association, as well as a member of the Laurier (Liberal) Ladies long time employee of Linhaven Home. Sally is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel 585 Carlton St. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Monday January 2, 2006. Vigil Prayers will said on Monday at 8:30pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Assumption Church at 11:30 am on Tuesday. Rite of committal will be held in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired donations may be made to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation.
