FireCracker Night
Tom and Jack had adjoining back yards and I remember "fire cracker night". We would sort out the firecrackers....lady fingers to the CANON FIRECRACKERS!!!! The big ones were for Tom and Jack to play with as they were too dangerous for us. We would collect tin cans of various sizes..... and us kids would light our firecrackers and finally the grand finale would be the CANON FIRECRACKER COMPETITION..... Tom and Jack would see who could send the can the highest..... it was always a competition.
Another memory was Christmas dinner at Helen and Tom's around the pool table ...that was so much fun and when it came to great food, no DeYoung ever missed their "cue".
I enjoyed the photo presentation so much..... it gives a glimmer of his families view on Tom's life with his very special family.
To Helen, Ted, Terry and Nancy and families.... you have made Tom's life very special.

Haliburton Lake and his False Teeth
One of the many wonderful times up in Haliburton. Uncle Tom wanted to try skiing. Uncle Tom took off from the dock and landing face first about 2' from the dock. Up he comes laughing saying "I lost my teeth". John had to don mask and snorkel to find his teeth on the bottom of the lake. I don't remember if he ever did get up skiing!

Mrs. Deyoung, Ted, Terry and Nancy,
Eileen and I are unable to come to the visitation or funeral so I thought I would write you an email. Sorry for using this impersonal medium.
We are very sorry to hear about Tom's passing. It's been 31 years since I've lived in St. Catharines but I remember him well. For example, I remember how he just LOVED having all of us kids playing hockey on your driveway and doing our best to make as much noise as possible by doing slapshots against the garage door ;-)
Your family and mine were always good neighbours and for a very long time. That is a tribute to Tom and all of you.
So take this time to reflect on his life, enjoy the good memories and take care of each other at this difficult time.
George and Eileen Oliver

The Twinkle
Oh .... the family picnic when Tom was discussing politics... a common topic. The discussion got quite heated because of some of the statements he was making. I looked at him and with a twinkle in his eyes and a wink he let me know he was just "stirring the pot". He liked to keep things interesting. I'll always remember that twinkle.
