Garrett, Wilfred: Surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday February 8, 2011 at Linhaven home for the aged in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Sally (1989). Loving companion of Beaulah Whatling for more than 21 years. Loving father of Catharine (Joseph) Rawson, Michael, and David (Cathy Wosley). Cherished grandpa of Carla (Eric) Stetz, Aaron (Kelly), Kyle, Andrea, Christine (Kevin) Dunits, Adam and great grandpa of Emily, Andrew, Morgan, Brayden, Max, Connor, Andrew, Tessa and Joseph. Wilf is surived by his sister Marie Lacina and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his sister Isabelle Yendt. Wilf retired from G.M. in 1984 after 34 years of employment, we was WWII veteran, he was awarded the St. Catharines Sportsman of the year in 1968, Mr. Softball in 1968, the Ontario Sports Awards in 1978, the Naismith Memorial Award and inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979, inducted into the St.Catharines Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, and highly regarded as one of the most influential basketball referee in Niagara, as well as a lifetime member of the OASA. Mr. Garrett is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. Catharines. The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 on Thursday Feb 10, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday Feb 11. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday Feb 12, at 10 am. at St. Denis Church with interment to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Garden. If so desired memorial remembrances made to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family.
