Halliday, Gwen (nee Preston) After a short and valiant battle with leukemia, passed away peacefully at home (of 89 years) while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 16, 2005 in her 92nd year. Loving mother of Sharon (Stephen) Pullen and Bruce (Sarah) Halliday. Dear Grandma to Angela (Shawn) Carr, Wendi Halliday, Michael Carr and "Gee Gee" to Clayton and Shawnee Carr. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, sister in law Marg Preston and brothers in law Doug, Roy and Jack (Ann) Halliday. Dearest friend to Nola Hill of Gravenhurst , Ontario . She will be lovingly missed by her loving pet and friend Maizie and Mayday the squirrel. Predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years Bert (March 2005), beloved grandson Blair Carr (2003), loving nieces Margie Ward and Barb McClelland and brothers Walter (Fern), Cy (Louise), Reg, Elmer (Nellie) and Norm (Hazel). Gwen was a very active volunteer at the St. Catharines General Hospital and she last worked in the gift shop 6 weeks ago. She also volunteered in the emergency room and palliative care units of the hospital. She received her Lifetime Achievement Award at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto for her many years of service. Gwen was universally loved by all she met, second mother to Joy, Sarah, Barb, Sharon K. and Denise, and will be remembered for her homemade cooking. She enjoyed travelling with her daughter, R.V. vacations in Florida with her family and was an avid Royal family and Blue Jays fan. Gwen's family will receive relatives and friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday, October 18th from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, October 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 20th, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment, Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to St Catharines General Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated by her family.
