I was very sorry to hear about the loss of Vince. I had a lot of respect for him and the way that he advocated for those with acquired brain injury. He was extremely articulate and always expected excellence from those of us at BICR.
I arrived at the funeral home last night for the visitation, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go in since I just lost my Dad a few months ago.
I wanted you all to know that Vince was very well-liked and highly revered by all of us at BICR. His passion was very motivating and his involvement in the field is truly remarkable. Please accept my condolences.
Sincerely,
Paula Cutler

The Family of Vince FitzGibbon,
My sincere condolences in this time of loss. Vince will be remembered by so many people as the architect and guiding force behind BICR. His contributions there have helped countless persons with acquired brain injury and their families. It was a pleasure for me to work on the Board with Vince over these past five years. He will be dearly remembered and greatly missed.

Gospel of John, Chapter 14, Verse 1 - 3. Jesus says, "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in Me.
In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also."
The Angels trumpet your arrival Vince, to your mansion in the sky.
Until "our" mansions are completed "we" bid you "Adieu", "We'll" meet again!
I always loved and liked you Vince. You were ALWAYS pleasant towards me; we conversed very well together...never a lack of words between us. You were a devoted Dad and an especially kind-hearted individual...a fabulous (in my opinion) husband to my AMAZING ENERGIZER MOM! She keeps going and going and going! R.I.P. Vince. You deserve it! Your Daughter, Helen

Dear Vince:
I believe that you are in a better place and your suffering have ended. I was very sad to find out how you were suffering the end of your life.
You and I go back about 13 years with BICR. When I first met you I thought you were a little "scary", then I found out later that you are a very gentle, generous, caring, honest, amazing man. You made things happen.
No matter how much you had on your mind, you always took the time to say "hello" and ask about my family.
You have left behind such a legacy, not only in your family, but in BICR. Thank you for what your brought to my life and the life of so many people.
I know you are in heaven looking down on all who cared about you, and if there is something up there you don't like, you will advocate to change it.
My condolences to your family and I will miss you.
Alice

My heartfelt condolences to his family and all those who mourn him. I hope you might find the following poem to be of some use, as it was to me in the past. It was delivered as part of a sermon at St. Paul's Cathedral in 1910, while the body of King Edward VII was lying in state at Westminster.
Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effect
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
