Dear Greig, Jayne, Robbie, Kevin, Stephanie and the Garland Family:
Following on my phone call earlier this morning, I am continuing to hold all of you in my thoughts and prayers as you prepare to "celebrate" the life of Mel as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. During this time of remembering and sharing may you find, the strength, comfort and peace which God has promised, believing that even as the one you love has been received into God's gracious keeping, so he will remain in your hearts forever.
God bless,
David

On behalf of Mel's colleagues and friends at Durham College I would like to extend our sympathy to the Garland family. During Mel's tenure at Durham we hardly realized what successful and rewarding life he led.
We understnd it is difficult to deal with his passing, but please celebrate a full life where he touched so many people. Durham College was but one stop on what was a long and productivity career.
Our sincere thoughts are with all of you at this time.

To the Garland Family We were indeed sorry to read in todays Globe & Mail of Mel's passing. My wife and I wish to express our sincere condolences to all members of the Family. My wife and I recall many an enjoyable days with Mel when I had the opportunity to be the Minister of Industry and Tourisum As we read the notice this morning we started to recall our trip with Mel through Los Angles, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippians, Iran, India, France and finally England and the great time we had. Mel was always one that the Minister could rely on for straight forward advice not always what you wanted to hear but honest and correct. My life was enhance in having had the opportunity to be associate with Mel in so many areas of the Ministry and Government

Was so sorry to read of Mel's passing in today's Spectator. He was
a neighbor of my dad's (Russ) at the Willowgrove and he and Dad had
a few chats last year or so about the war as he too was in the Army
and went overseas. Dad had told me Mel told him he flew the Spitfires
in the war and had been injured. He will miss seeing him I'm sure.
I seen him several times in the last few months and would say hi to
him and he would always look up and sort of smile at me. Our deepest
sympathy to you all at this sad time from both of us. Joan.
