Obituary of Dennis Benvenuto
Benvenuto Dennis Michael on Tuesday July 24th 2007 at University Hospital in London after a courageous battle with liver disease awaiting a transplant with his family by his side. Dennis is the beloved husband and best friend of Janice (nee Morrison) for over 30 years, wonderful father of Matthew and Christine and will be sadly missed by his dog Darcy. Much loved son of Gino and Annette Benvenuto, loving brother of Gina and the late Ralph Patterson (2005), the late Mathew (1989) and son-in-law of Jack and Josephine Morrison, brother-in-law of Robin and the late Bob Morrison (1993), Jim and Lori Morrison. Dennis is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Dennis was a graduate of Denis Morris High School, was the proud co-owner with his father of the family business, Artistic Mold and Die Ltd.; the partner of The Cutting Edge Hair Salon with his good friend Barbara Labatte until 1997; partner of the Niagara Rowing School in Jordan Harbour; Past President of the St. Catharines Ad and Sales Club (1993), an educator with Niagara College teaching the General Machining apprenticeship program. Dennis was honoured to receive a coaching award in 2003 for recognition of his dedication and contribution to Denis Morris rowing spanning four decades and in 2005 an award for his lifetime of service to Canadian Secondary School Rowing; coached St. Catharines Minor Baseball for many years and had a passion for photography and life.
Dennis' family will receive their friends at the George Darte Funeral Chapel 585 Carlton St. on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Vigil prayers for Dennis will be held on Sunday at 8:30pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held in St. Mary of the Assumption Church (St. Paul Crescent) on Monday at 10am. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations in memory of Dennis may be made to the Ontario Gift of Life Program or to the Dennis Benvenuto Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Denis Morris High School would be appreciated by his family.
