To the Gittings family,
Our deepest expression of sympathy and prayers are sent to all of you. The loss of a family member is one of the most difficult to bear. The loss of a son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend is hard to acknowledge and accept.
Please know that my children and I extend our condolences to you as we have been there too.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Robbie. I only knew you all from Mountainview when I lived in St. Catharines and attended the church. Good friends with the Hoxies and have kept me up to date over the years on everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your loss especially to one so young. I lost both parents to that terrible disease and know how it affects all family members. We had a special prayer for Robbie this past week at our Tansley United Church here in Burlington as we have a special prayer section in the service. We will once again give a memorial prayer for him this Sunday. May God help you and guide you through this week ahead. Our thoughts are with you.
Your friends and former Mountainview member

My heartfelt condolences to all of the Gittings family. You have lost a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and uncle who treasured his role in your family. And I have lost an irreplaceable friend. From the time I first met him as a youngster Rob captivated my attention with his unique blend of humour, curiosity, compassion and sense of responsibility. As an adult, he honed these characteristics to a remarkable level and it was with great pride that I called him a friend. I always slept a little more peacefully knowing he was serving on the Niagara Regional Police force. I will miss him, deeply.
I'm sorry circumstances prevent me from attending his funeral service. But rest assured I will be there in spirit
Sincerely, Clarke Thomson

To the Gittings family, my sweet sister Sue and David & Vanessa, I'm so sorry for your loss. Rob was a special individual that took awesome care of his family. He made me proud to call him brother-in-law. I had the chance to see Rob last November and was glad I was able to tell him we loved him. I miss him already, but I think Rob would want his family and friends to remember the happy times and that his spirit lives on through you.
We love you Rob!

i just received an email telling me about rob and i wanted to write one of my remembrances of rob
i'll always remember rob from an incident that happened at sir winston churchill high school. we both happened to be the last 2 students in the gym. rob was practicing his basketball shooting and skills. i was trying to sink a basketball from half court. on one of my missed shots i kicked the basketball which went nowhere where i wanted it to but unerringly struck rob right in the head and knocked him flat on his back. not knowing how he was going to react i was ready to run as quickly as possible. i called out 'gitts, gitts are you okay?' he broke up laughing and couldn't chase me
whenever rob's name has come up, i'll always remember him from that episode.
please give my love to the family
sincerely john fraser

I am finding it very difficult that such a special individual as was Rob Gittings, has passed on. Rob had such a great friendly personality, which I wished that I had as well. Rob, prior to your passing, I have thought of you quite often, and wishing and praying that you would out live your illness. As your former platoon supervisor and friend, I will miss your friendly smiling face, your love for life and your occasionally comical jokes at briefing, which would fill the room with laughter. Rob for many years, you were a member of the Police Basketball Team and was one of the more talented players on the team. I thank you for your devotion and dedication during the time you were part of this team under my leadership. Rob, you were very well liked by many police officers and members of the public that you chose to protect and serve. Your absence will be greatly felt by all. Rob, your wife, children, parents and brother and sisters and their families, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Please accept my very sincere condolences for your lost. Please, also accept my apologies, since I am finding it very difficult to pay my respects to Rob and yourselves, during visitation and funeral service. Rob will live forever in my respect for him, thoughts and prayers. God bless you all. Thank you. Al Pieretti

I'm sad to hear of Rob's death. He and I played tight-end together on the SWC football team. Two things I fondly remember about Rob:
1. with his big hands, you could always count on him to catch a ball thrown anywhere near him
2. he always had a big grin, deep laugh and funny joke to get you through the day.
Rob was a really great guy with a big heart. My wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to his family. Paul and Vicky.

Tomorrow - we salute one of Sovereign's finest.

I think I can speak for all the officers that knew Rob in saying they are better people because of it.
Now may the Lord keep you in the palm of His hand.

To all: When I knew Rob, growing up, he was full of energy and brought many "extended family" vacations more laughs and joy than I could express here. It sounds like that has remained his trademark. I haven't seen Rob for about 20 -25 years (I regret that), but have always thought about all the Gittings and the memories that I had growing up. Hearing about Rob's passing has brought up many of those memories again and I am thankful that I have them and had Rob to help me enjoy them.
