Rolande Sloper

Obituary of Rolande Sloper

Sloper, Rolande (Rollie) Peacefully and in comfort, Rollie passed away at Extendicare St. Catharines on February 5, 2007 in her 87th year. Dearly loved by husband James Sloper, daughter Gail (Larry) Tufford, grandaughters Jill ( Peter) Sawchuk, Karen (John) van der Zalm and Julie (Rob) van der Zalm. She had six great grandsons, who never had the chance to really know her - Mathew, Isaac, Malcolm, Saul, Sean and Seth. Predeceased by her mother Ida Dion, brother Marcel Longpre and sister Fernande Landry. Rollie was a spunky talented lady until Alzheimers disease began to take her from us in 1997. She loved her bowling and golf, and of course her animals. She was known for her sewing, having worked for Carpet Your World, McNamara & Reynolds and Brown's Interiors making drapes and doing upholstery. She was also a wonderful dressmaker and would tackle any project working with her hands. In the 1950's she operated the cafeteria at Guarantee Silk & Die Works which later became Resin-Tex Ltd., where she went on with her love of sewing. She was in charge of the flag department making all types of flags. She is at peace now and will always be remembered in our hearts. Thank you to those caregivers at Extendicare who gave tender, compassionate care to Rollie during her four year stay there and especially during her last days. Rollie's family will receive friends at The George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Vigil prayers will be held Wednesday at 3:45 pm in the funeral home. Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's of The Assumption Church on Thursday February 8, 2007 at 11:00am. Internment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetary. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or charity of your choice.
