Obituary of Giovanni Leone

Leone, Giovanni - Passed away peacefully in his sleep at the St. Catharines Shaver Hospital on Sunday in his 85th year, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Antonietta (nee Evangelista) for over 57 years. Dedicated father of Maria Cardillo (Mario) and Ludovico (Len) and his wife Josephine. Cherished Nonno of Frank Cardillo (Marre) of Niagara Falls, John Cardillo of St, Catharines, Elizabeth Keyes (nee Cardillo) and her husband Bryn of St. Catharines, Daniel (Tricia) of Mississauga and Alaina of St. Catharines. Loving great- grandfather to Christopher, Dario, Ethan, Matthew, Evan and Ryan. Survived by his sisters Caterina Erbozzi and Angelina Evangelista of Italy. Predeceased by his parents Ludovico and Antonia. Giovanni was an honest, hard-working, kind and generous man who loved his family very much and was always willing to offer his time and energy. He will be forever remembered for his passion for agriculture and wine making, as well as his friendly spirit and sense of humour. The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street until 10:30am on Wednesday. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine Street, at 11am. Visiting hours are Monday 7-9pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3pm. Entombment will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Hotel Dieu - Shaver Hospital Fund in Giovanni's honour.
