To Linda & family,
Little did I know back in 82, the first time I met Steve, that he would play a huge part in my life.
I was a store manager at the Pointe-Claire branch for International and Steve used to send family and friends for house paint (many, many friends). We got along so well that in 84, he offered me a sales position at the good old marine branch on Ottawa street. He took a chance on an unknown who knew nothing of the marine business and showed me the ropes willingly, for that I will always be grateful. Much of what I have today I owe to him.
I will always cherish our many ski trips to Sauveur, Jay and Ste-Anne, our countless squash games or raiding old abandoned barns in the Eastern Townships for his woodworking projects. I have so many great memories of times spent with Steve.
We are thinking of you and your family at this time and send you our most heartfelt condolences.

Linda and family. As you know Steve played a huge part in many lives, and our early intro some 20-25 years had been maintained after you left Mtl through the Green Lake Fishing club and odd visits to and from Quebec & Ontario. One of the biggest impacts Steve had in my life was in sharing his passion of the outdoors and nature. It may sound odd, but many members of our fishing club can now identify song birds by their song thanks to him. Through him and you, your friends have become my friends. I share with them and you much sadness at the loss of such a wonderful friend and human being. He set the bar for many of us. God bless.

My Dad called me today and mentioned that Steven had died. I am so sorry to hear this news. I grew up on Claude Avenue in Dorval -- almost across the street from the Rapleys. I saw Steven's photo and could see that his sense of fun and the twinkle in his eye were still a big part of him. I had no idea he was in St. Catherines.. nor was I up-to-date with his life. Sad the way we move on and don't look back...
To Linda and his children and parents: I am so very sorry for your loss. You have my sympathy.

We were very shocked and saddened to hear of Steven's tragic death. We met Steven and his beautiful family several summers ago when members of the Rapley, Pipke, Howell and Norton clan gathered at the cottage at Dunany. We all had a wonderful, memorable time together - we were sad to leave. Family times like that are so precious. It was very apparent that Steven was a good man, loving husband and father. Dear Linda, Paul, Stephanie, David, Uncle Ken, Auntie Joyce,Tim, Peter and Sue, you all have been in my thoughts constantly since I heard about Steven's tragic death. I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for his loss. I have fond memories of Steven, starting from when I was a little girl on Claude Avenue and used to eye his motor boat longingly. I even went so far as to clean it for him once, just so I could have a ride in it. I wasn't disappointed. Other memories include day trips to Dunany, a tiny hummingbird's nest he had found that Joyce proudly displayed in her den, and of course many many hours babysitting Paul and Stephanie. I'll never forget thinking, as a teenager, that Steven was the only guy who looked good with a beard! Though we never met up again once I left Montreal, I was always kept up to date with you all via Sue. At this difficult time, my heart is breaking for you and I wish you much strength and love.
