Obituary of Yvonne Sweeney

Sweeney, Yvonne - It is with great sorrow that the family of Yvonne Sweeney announces her sudden but peaceful death at Linhaven Home on Tuesday September 23, 2008, three days after celebrating her 87th birthday. Yvonne was predeceased by Larry, her beloved husband of 65 years. Mom leaves behind her devoted children Carol Kittl (the late Nick), Judy (Ed) Barszcz, Brian (Debbie), Jim (Penny), and Meb (Paul) Smith. Also mourning her death are her loving grandchildren Jim (Lisa), Danielle (Dean), Lara, Julie, Courtney, Jeff (Robyn), Mandy (Adrian), Kevin and Marissa; great grandchildren Shae, Kelsey, Paige, Lucas and Gabriel. Yvonne is survived by sisters Rita Birney and Annette (Mike) Foley; sisters-in-law Blanche Pigeon and Sheila Pigeon and brother in law Guy Orsborn. Will be missed by many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Amie and Agnus Pigeon, brothers Omer and Armand and sister Simone. Also predeceased by brothers and sisters in law Clarence Birney, Morris Abrams, Francis (Jane), Vince (Marion), Mary (Ed) Wood and Margaret Orsborn. Yvonne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was also a parishoner of St. Denis Roman Catholic Church and was awarded her 50 year pin for her involvement with the Catholic Womens League. Her family was her greatest joy along with her music and the Montreal Canadiens. Her children would like to sincerely thank the staff on Secord Wing - Linhaven Home for all their tender loving care. Mrs. Sweeney is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton Street until 10:30am on Friday. Visiting hours are Thursday between 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 3pm. Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. Denis Church, 230 Lake St. on Friday at 11am. Interment will follow the church service at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Parkinsons Society or Alzheimers Society in Yvonne's memory.
