Obituary of Leona Catherine Johnson

JOHNSON, Leona While surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 5th after a brief illness at the St. Catharines General Hospital-NHS at the age of 76. Predeceased by husband Harold and her son William. Cherished mother of Cathie (the late Lawrie) Wiltshire and Robyn (Ameer) Wakil. Loving and fun Nan to Doulton, Matthew, Jamil, Keera and Kloey. She will be sadly missed by her siblings- Paul, Bob, Angela, sister in law Ethel and many special nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends locally and in Toronto. Leona was a force to be reckoned with in her day at the St. Alfred's Bowling League, as a curling champ, President of the Niagara Homebuilders Ladies Association and a canvasser for several charities. In certain circles, she was affectionately known as "Saint Leona" since she had the gentlest heart and would say to her friends -"Don't worry. I'll pray for you". Leona was envied for her artistic talents, whether it was her stellar gardening, detailed wedding cakes, perfect apple pie or beautiful tole pictures. Most significant in her life was the abundance of love and listening that she provided for all -especially her grandchildren. She professed her pride in each and every of her grandchildrens' accomplishments. Mom was grateful to all her friends, children and grandchildren for providing smiles and laughter. God has acquired an Angel. We have lost a great love. Leona's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, July 7th from 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 8th at St. Julia Catholic Church, 251 Glenridge Avenue at 10 am. Rite of Committal to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation or the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be appreciated by the family.
