1940-2010
It is with deep sorrow and sadness, that we mourn Gayle's passing, on September 8th, 2010 at the St. Catharines General Hospital-NHS. She leaves behind her loving partner, friend and companion of 49 years Flo Distefano. Loving aunt to Cathy Dittrich, Carrie, Barb, Brenda and Rob, and many great nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Marian and George Steel, stepfather Karl Lahorey, her brothers David, Jack and Brian, and her nephew David Steel.Gayle was a hard and caring worker while employed by Lightning Fastener until it closed, and later General Motors. Gayle had to retire early due to a brain tumour and courageously fought for the past 9 years. Gayle was also an avid softball player throughout her younger years. She will be missed by her "Bingo Buddies", as well as, all her life long friends and working companions. The family extends sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at the SCGH.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date, followed by a private family inurnment in Alliston. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by the family.
