Obituary of William Gordon Lewis

LEWIS, William Gordon (Bill, Billy) After a twelve year battle with Vasculitis, it is with great sorrow that his family announces the passing of Billy at the St. Catharines General Hospital-NHS on Saturday, September 11, 2010, and while surrounded by the ones he loved. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Evelyn Lewis of Cape Breton. Beloved husband of Eleanor for 52 years, and devoted father to Linda Ada Lewis. Most loved Papa by his only granddaughter Mackenzie A.V. Lewis. Also survived by his sisters Eva Lampman and Thelma Cunningham of St. Catharines and Lorna MacQuarrie of Sydney, Nova Scotia. Godfather to P. Craig Medland of Toronto and Gaelan Martin-Timms of St. Catharines. Billy retired from GM in 1989 as a Supervisor after 34 years of service. He was an antique car enthusiast, being a member of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada-Kawartha Lakes Region and the Antique Automobile Club of America-Lake Erie Region, as well as, a GM car enthusiast. He was an active member of St. John's Anglican Church in Thorold. Billy will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his many friends. Billy's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, September 14th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. A Funeral Service to celebrate his life will take place on Wednesday, September 15th at St. John's Anglican Church, 12 Carleton Street South, Thorold at 11am with Rev. Canon Cathie Crawford-Browning presiding. Burial to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In keeping with Billy's wishes and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Vasculitis Foundation of Canada or to St. John's Anglican Church-Thorold would be appreciated by the family. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Doug Morrison- family physician and the staff of the Beamsville Medical Centre for their compassion and care.
