Wheeler, Captain George - On Saturday March 15, 2008 in his 84th year at the St. Catharines General Hospital with his loving family by his side. Lovingly remembered by his wife Noreen of 64 years. Will be sadly missed by his 7 children George (Jan), the late Charlie - 2007 (Sandy), Suzanne Sawatsky (Ralph) of Niagara Falls, Noreen Bedford (Wayne) of Fenwick, Kathryn Reynolds of St. Catharines, James of St. Catharines and Robert (Monique) of St. Catharines. Cherished by his 12 grandchildren Algis Jovaisas, Chris, the late Reco (1997), Stella, Sarah Richards, Peter Richards, Patrick, Katy Reynolds, Robert, Jenny Reynolds, Kyle, Michael and Abigail. Also survived by is 4 great-grandchildren Nicholas and Jack Penner, Madisyn and Brooklynne Richards and his 2 sisters Mabel Ball, Helen Hills and brother Ken of England and many family and close friends. Predeceased by his 2 brothers Wilfred, Paul and sister Mary. Captain George sailed with Misner Shipping Ltd. for 43 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, International Ship Masters Association, Meritton Legion, and the Rush Brook Rangers. George will always be remembered as a loving and generous man, who devoted his time to his family. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses for the care given to George during his time at the St. Catharines General Hospital ICU Unit. Captain George is resting at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, until Thursday at 10:30am. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 316 Queenston Street at 11am. Cremation will follow the church service. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Wednesday at 7pm. As an expression of sympathy, memorial remembrances may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Ontario or St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation in George's honour.
