Hopkins, Douglas LloydSuddenly at home on Thursday February 28, 2008 - Doug (Hoppy) died at the age of 82. Beloved husband for 51 years to Eileen Tufford (July 1998). Best friend to his four daughters, Daryl (George) Vaux of Cambridge, Kathy, Lee Anne (Jerry) Taylor, Linda (Tom) Cairns, all of Beamsville. Also missing him dearly will be his eight grandchildren (the lights of his life) Doug (Kelly) Vaux, Robert Vaux, Caleb (Paula) Taylor, Kyla Taylor, Dorian Taylor, Jenelle Taylor, Jared (Heather) Cairns, Marnie (Jason) Cairns and great granddaughter Paisley. Predeceased by three beautiful grandchildren Laureen, Brayden and Brenna. Doug is survived by his sister Betty (Jim) Metherall and predeceased by his parents Carmen and Maisie, sister Audrey and brother Don. Brother-in-law of Harold (Phyllis) Tufford, Lawrence (Colleen) Tufford and several nieces and nephews. Dad was proud to serve his country overseas in Europe as a pilot officer - rear gunner with the RCAF 432nd squadron from 1943 until the end of the war. He was a member of the Caterpillar Club. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 612. He was employed as a supervisor at TRW for 38 years, retiring in 1984. Dad enjoyed his retirement years traveling with his life loving wife Eileen, slicing a few on the golf courses and playing the one armed bandits. A kinder, more generous, loving person will not be found. Mr. Hopkins is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Monday at 10:30am. A celebration of Doug's life will be held in the George Darte Funeral Chapel at 11am. Rite of Committal will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances to the St. Catharines General Hospital Cancer Care Centre or West Lincoln Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
