We were so sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Steve "O". My wife and I attended seminary in St. Louis with Steve and where your husband/dad and I both contributed to the Student Newspaper. It was always enjoyable to read his editorials in "O's Corner" as well as his Jockey Shorts...Sports news. We were also neighbors to the Schneiders, in Maplewood, MO (Bill and Barb) who introduced us to Steve.
May the Lord bless your family and give you the peace that passes all understanding in the weeks and months ahead. Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will never die.
These greetings come to you from just across lake Huron in Oscoda, MI.
In Christ. Tim and Kathy Azzam

We were shocked to hear of this difficult news. Even though it has been a number of years, we have often thought of our time with Steve and Wendy and the whole family as well as the family of Christ Lutheran. Our time was so blessed by everyone, but Steve made it especially wonderful with a huge welcoming spirit, strong and grace filled leadership, and the joyfulness of loving life and ministry. Whether in ministry or not, anyone who came to know Steve was powerfully affected through his sharing of himself with them. Our hearts and prayers go out to you all.
Blessings in Christ's comfort and strength.

Our condolences to the family of Steve Oetting. We got the very sad news yesterday (26th) by a phone call from our daughter-in-law Tracey Johnson Reavell-Roy. We are currently in California visiting with our daughter Julie and son-in-law Steven Donnelley. Pastor O helped so very much as Greg prepared for the ministry. It was only a few short years ago that Pastor O sent an email of condolences to the funeral home in Port Perry following my brother Wesley's death. His message meant so very much because it was so heartfelt. I borrow the essence of those words of comfort and include them in our message to you now. "May you find comfort in your faith over the period of time that you wrestle with the loss of your loved one". We cannot be back from California to be with you in person in time for the funeral and to embrace you but we do extend our message of love and support.
Harley and Lois Johnson with Steven and Julie Donnelley in San Clemente, CA.

I was sad to hear of your loss.
Be encouraged that brother Steven leaves a legacy of love and an impact in the Kingdom; his zeal and genuine heart for kids made a deep impression on me as a young man; and his example of reaching out, and equipping others to reach out and let others know about the unfathomable riches of God's grace through Jesus - this example by our beloved "Pastor O" has been passed on to such as me!
Well done, good and faithful servant.
My love and sympathies to you all,
Paul.

It is with great sadness that I learnt of Pastor O's passing on. I had the distinct pleasure to work with him as part of the Lutheran Youth Group, ZAP, back in the early 1990s and he was an inspiration to me during a time of self-examination and spiritual "crisis". He was never too busy for anyone, always had a smile and a hug (whether you needed it or not!) but above all was committed to his faith and Lord. His leadership amongst young people fostered many strong adult Christians who are today spreading the Good Word. I remember going to his and Wendy's wedding and my husband (who is Greek Orthodox) saying "He [Pastor O] can't be a Pastor .... he's too cool!!". Our condolences and prayers are with Wendy, their children and family. Remember that Pastor O is in the company of his Lord and Saviour and is smiling at this very moment.

I have only known Steve since he joined FaithLife Financial last year. But right from our initial conversation I could tell he was a person deeply committed to doing well in his Christian walk and that he had a tremendous desire to help people in their daily lives. His family was extremely important to him and he spoke so proudly about each of his children and what they were doing. Steve worked extremely hard in all he endeavoured to do and has no doubt helped so many people in his former ministry as well as his new clients with FaithLife Financial. Steve has helped me to look at life differently for which I am very grateful. He will be greatly missed. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to the entire Oetting family. When I saw Steve's obituary in the paper today it brought back some fond memories dating back 13-14 years ago when I was Teddy's and Tara's teacher at Beacon Christian School (formerly Calvin Memorial Christian School). I remember both Steve and Wendy as very supportive and encouraging parents to me as their children's teacher. Together we strove to instill the love of God in them. I hope and trust that through the years that love and connection has remained. Because I mainly knew Ted (back then it was Teddy) and Tara- my heart goes out to your as you must now deal with this devasting blow of your dad's death. Strength to you - hold tight to your family and to God!

I am very sad to hear of Steven's passing. I was his babysitter for his children many years ago and he was just so kind to me all the time. I hadn't had contact with him for years and just 2 years ago I contacted him because I needed some much needed advice on the baptism of my daughter. I was very confused at what was the right church, the right religion, the right thing to do. I told him I wasn't into organized religion but was very distraught over not knowing what to do. His reply to me was beautiful. Not once did he try to steer me any other way than directly to god. Directly to what was in my heart, and to me, this is what a pastor should be. I felt like a good mom, and I felt cared for and respected from him, and there is no other love in our world than a love and understanding that comes from someone so selfless. His mission was his work as a pastor, but it went well beyond what people could see.
I believe he already was an angel before yesterday.
God bless his soul.
