Obituary of Alex Bennett
Bennett, Alexander (Alex) - Passed away peacefully early Saturday morning at Hospice Niagara in his 88th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Ellie (1998). Survived by his brother George and sisters May, Isabelle and Christina all of Scotland. Also survived by his cousins John and Ann Davis as well as many family members and friends. Alex was a long time employee of the Port Weller Dry Docks, a founding member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 350, and a devoted member of Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church. A special thanks to family friend Sue Lee Sewell for her compassion and kindness over the years. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Hughes, the Oncology staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital, Dr. Kerley and the staff members at Hospice Niagara for their gracious help and support to Alex.
Alex is resting at the George Darte Funeral Home until 9:30am on Wednesday. Friends and guests may visit between 2-4 and 7-9pm on Tuesday. Vigil prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 3pm. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church at 10am on Wednesday. A graveside committal service will follow the church service at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made towards either the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice Niagara in Alex's memory.
