I was saddened to learn of Betty's death in my Hamilton Spectator this morning and send sincere condolences to her family. I enrolled in Canada Business College the year she began teaching typing and I can still hear her reciting "k, i, 8, i, k, comma, k, space". Mr. Main (a formidable gentleman with flowing white hair) taught penmanship; thank heavens I excelled at typing and shorthand because I let him down abysmally! Not sure of the name of my shorthand teacher but it may have been Miss Winters....after all, it has been well over 60 years since my C.B.C. days but they all must have done a pretty good job - I was secretary to our beloved Father Sean O'Sullivan during his five years in Ottawa.
I remember remarking to one of my classmates that "Mrs. Jackson looks kind of sad" and was told that her husband was overseas and she was probably missing him terribly. What a lovely picture of her; I'm so glad I read the complete article and so enjoyed the memories it invoked.

Dear Glen;
Even though we cannot be there in person, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. Your Mother must have been exceptional and caring to raise such a great and caring son. Take heart that now she is reunited with your Dad. We will talk to you soon. Toivo, Maureen & Chris.

We are very sorry that we are unable to attend the service as we are out of town due to family commitments. Aunt Betty was a class act, a fine lady from head to toe. I have many fond memories visiting with her as a child. Her death is a loss to the Jackson family. I admired the fact that she never veered from her personal convictions, which affected every aspect of her life and touched others. My sincere condolences to Bob, Glen, and the entire family.

I have only met "Aunt Betty" a few times. She had a special gift in relating to people making them feel at ease. I found her to be a gentle woman with many, many good qualities from which we can all learn. Please accept my sincere condolences.
