Obituary of Bernard Alonzo Breen

BREEN, Bernard Alonzo "Bernie" Peacefully at Extendicare in St. Catharines on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Emma (nee Poirier) for over 53 years. Loving father of Carmel (Gary) Tudhope of Niagara Falls and Mona (Tim) O'Brien. Loving grandfather of Ashleigh, Meaghan, Lindsay, Patrick and Michelle. Bernie will be sadly missed by Gisele (Roland [2004]) Boudreau, Denis, Sylvie (Carlo) Geonet, by his nephew Urban, his nieces Nancy and Betty O'Brien and by his family in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Montreal, Boston and Welland. Predeceased by his brother Howard (Martha) Breen and his sister Doris O'Brien all of Nova Scotia. Bernie was born in Havre Boucher, Nova Scotia. Dear son of the late Joseph and Florence (DeCoste) Breen. Bernie was a Royal Canadian Navy Veteran. He served five years in Canada and over seas in the Second World War. Bernie was a Master Mechanic at Domtar Fine Paper in Toronto for over 15 years and at Domtar St. Catharines for over 18 years. Bernie was also a long time parishioner at St. Alfred's Church. Mr. Breen is resting at the GEORGE DARTE NORTH CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. until Friday, June 26, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine St. at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be celebrated in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to Sick Children's Hospital or to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness would be appreciated by Bernie's family.
