Obituary of Mary Noreen Hillier

HILLIER, Mary Noreen (nee Emlaw)- After 86 years lived to their fullest, it is with overwhelming sadness we say goodbye to our beautiful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who passed away on Sunday, October 10th, 2010 at the St Catharines General Hospital. Noreen was beloved wife of the late Ted for 63 years and much loved mother of Brian (Anna) and David (Glenda). Grandma will be dearly missed by her five grandchildren, Gordon [Vancouver], Kathi (Andrew) [Australia], Darcie (Clayton), Kelty and Kendra (Mike). She was also cherished Great Grandma to David, Rachel, Aidyn, Michaela, Hudson and Ainsley. Noreen was a valued and fondly remembered employee at Family and Children's Services until her retirement in 1982. She was also highly active and social, with a wide circle of friends. Noreen was a member of the St Denis Social Club and The Women's Card Club for over 60 years. She always gave back to the community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and The Hotel Dieu Auxiliary. She was a long standing member of the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Women's League and more recently, she became an active member of the C.A.W. Social Club. Her sparkly wit and love of life-as well as her famous apple pies-will be sorely missed by all. Noreen is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4p.m. & 7-9p.m. Vigil Prayers will take place on Wednesday at 3p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow. Memorial donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society would be appreciated by the family.
