Obituary of Pauline Zgonc

ZGONC, Pauline (nee Kolenc) After a long and fulfilled life, Pauline passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2009, following a brief illness at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 85, with her family by her side. Pauline leaves behind her chosen daughter, Debbie (Gary Chambers), granddaughters Lauren (Michael) Cornies, Jessica (Justin Whitehead). She will also be greatly missed by her great grandson William Cornies. Pauline is also survived by her sisters Mary (Bill) Dekleva, Annie (Dave) Selan and by many nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, United States and Europe. Predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Frank in 2006, she is once again at his side. Together, Frank and Pauline owned and operated Community Grocery in St. Catharines for many years. Pauline was a long time member of Star of the Sea Parish and the Catholic Women's League. Pauline is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., until Friday at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in Star of the Sea Church, 34 Elgin St., on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28th from 7 -9 p.m. and on Thursday, January 29th from 2 -4 p.m. and 7 -9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be offered on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. If desired, memorial remembrances to the Star of the Sea Church or to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated by Pauline's family.
