To Aunt Jackie, Doug, Chris, Scott, Cam and families. We are thinking of you all at the incredible sad time. Reading everyones messages just shows what a very special man Uncle Doug was to everyone he met and I am honoured to have known and loved him. So many special memories and I am so pleased we came across in '07 and he had the chance to get to know Ben. The world seems a darker place now. I'm sure he's up there dancing in "his soaks n shoes". I first met Doug when I was a University student on a police ride along. Years later, I was lucky enough to work with him when I was assigned to his platoon as a Communications Supervisor. Doug treated everyone with respect, but you always knew exactly what he was trying to tell you! I like that in a person!! I remember him speaking his mind at Association meetings and, once I got involved with the Executive, he was always happy to share his knowledge. The last time I saw him was at my retirement party in July, when again, he shared his advice about retirement. He was gruff on the outside, but anyone that was lucky enough to know him, found out he was a teddy bear on the inside. He will be missed by many, many people. My sincere condolences to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I had the privilege of working for Doug on the famous "A" Platoon, 1 Division. A great group of officers with very high morale, much of which was due to Doug's leadership. His wisdom, compassion and good Scots common sense helped me immensely during the time I had him as a staff and they continue to guide and inspire me today. He will be sorely missed.

Mrs. Hill, Douglas, Scott, Chris, Cameron and your families
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss. I often reflect on the St. Catharines days when we forged friendships that have provided such great memories. Whether rowing with Doug Junior or driving (in the toxic Chevelle, or the station wagon with part-time cruise control). Whether laughing at and with Cam, or sort-of coaching Chris in Volleyball, or watching Scott play football, the lads have been a legacy for their folks. We hope to see you at the visitation. We want to send along our condolences. Know that our thoughts and prayers will be with you in the days to come.

Doug Hill was a leader, mentor, hockey coach, golf partner and a friend. I first remember Doug as a child when my Dad had a shift party at our house and the Scottish policeman was in the basement †œteaching me† to play hockey. Doug always reminded me that my hockey career started then. Golf was always a game of strategy with Doug as to who would buy after the game. Police Association participation was very important to Doug. He taught us to look beyond the moment and take the course for the best outcome for the future of the members.
We will thank God for these special people in our lives and Doug was one of them.
Our condolences go to Jackie and her family on your loss.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to Doug's wife Jackie and their son's. Doug was one of my first platoon Sergeant's. He was a great teacher, was compassionate and allowed young officers enough freedom to grow and become better every day. When working for Doug you couldn't wait for the next shift. He made work a pleasure with his great sense of humour. He was a good friend. St. Catharine's was a better place with Doug. We will miss you.

My deepest condolences to the Hill family. Meeting Doug in 1979 when he was Chairman of the Board of the NRPA and I was the newly hired (right out of high school and totally nervous) secretary, Doug put me at ease right away at the first Board meeting with his kind smile and hearty laugh. His positive attitude and ability to find the bright or funny side of almost any situation made Doug a pleasure to work for. Although I didn't see Doug much after his retirement, I did run into him just a few short weeks ago at the Pen Centre. We had a lovely chat, exchanged Christmas greetings and as I left to continue with my Christmas shopping I realized that I was smiling, and the whole day ahead seemed brighter. He just had the effect on people. Doug, your happy manner and infectious laugh will be greatly missed and certainly never forgotten.

We are truly saddened with the passing of Doug. He was Mike's first (and best) coach officer and his words of wisdom & encouragement were held in great stead and often recalled over the years. Our deepest condolences to Aunt Jackie, Doug Jnr, Scott, Chris, Cam and all the family. We will treasure our special memories of Uncle Doug - the poem about the beans in the jar he recited at our wedding reception, the 'See You Jimmy' hats so wonderfully modelled by Uncle Doug & Aunt Jackie at Gretna on the way home, and the great memories he gave us from a wonderful holiday in Canada a few years ago, including acting like a kid again on the merry-go-round at Port Dalhousie, and bending his 7 Iron round a tree and playing better thereafter! If there is a 19th hole in Heaven Uncle Doug, we'd like to think you had a wee nip in your hand and were entertaining everyone with one of your stories! Cheers Uncle Doug, we love you.

I will always remember Doug for his charm and wonderful sense of humour. We enjoyed visiting Doug and Jackie when Cam was in town and were always welcomed into their home as their own children were. We saw Doug recently and always loved catching up on news of his children and grandchildren. He always spoke with such pride. What a great loss... To Jackie and all the Hill boys-our thoughts are with you today. Your sadness will be felt by many.

Doug was my friend. One of the first people on the Niagara Regional Police Service that I knew, Doug approached me that first week with his winning smile and wit, and made me feel comfortable in his presence. He was a fine man. The world has lost a good one! In a way that I am sure Doug will appreciate ... Tonight I will be raising a glass to offer a toast to my departed friend. I hope that some of you will do the same. "To Doug! We are going to miss you!"

We know how much you all loved and cherished Doug, and we also know how hard it is to lose a parent. You are very blessed to have loved him and also to have been loved by him. Chris, we did not know your father well, but we know what kind of a father you are. We believe you became the kind of father your father was to you.
