Obituary of Edmund Charlinski

CHARLINSKI, Edmund "Mundek" Passed away peacefully with his family and friend by his side on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Emilia. Loving father of three sons, one step son, one step daughter and their families. Special grandfather of 8 grandchildren. Mundek will be missed by his dear sister Halina Borysewicz and by her family. In 1941 Edmund survived the deportation from Poland to Siberia by the Soviet Union. In 1942 General Anders took Edmund together with the other Lost Children to Palestine so they could attend Cadet School. After spending 5 years in Palestine Edmund moved to England, then arrived to Canada in 1949. Edmund settled in St. Catharines where he attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and was a very dedicated Past President and Poppy Chairman of the Royal Canadian Legion, Polish Branch 418 on Vine St. and continued his service at some capacity on the Executive Committee. A special thank you to the doctors and the nursing staff at the Niagara Falls Hospital, third floor, for their compassionate care and support. Mundek is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., until Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 5 Oblate St., on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. Following Mass, Rite of Committal will be held in the Veteran's Section at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A full Legion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary prayer service. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
