Obituary of Kenneth MacLennan

MACLENNAN, KENNETH DAVID Passed away at Chateau Gardens Nursing Home, NOTL on Saturday August 21, 2010 in his 85th year. Predeceased January 9th, 2010 by his beloved wife Phyllis who was his constant support and companion for 61 years of marriage. Their relationship was an example of outstanding commitment through good times and bad. The passing of both Ken and Phyllis in the same year leaves the family at a lost because of the tremendous love and comforting presence of these two amazing human beings. Ken was a loving father to SHARON MOUKPERIAN, devoted Poppa of David (Lori), Paul (Melissa), Josh (Roe), Aaron, and Lisa (Brodie). Great-Grandfather of Brynlee, Gweneth, and Rylan. Ken has always been surrounded by exceptional family and friends. The MacLennan, Mattock, and Howell families were close knit, and Ken is survived by his dear youngest brother Paul and loving wife Jane, loyal brother-in-law Don Mattocks (Muriel, beloved sister), and wife's dear cousin Freda Howell (Lloyd). Ken worked at George Brown College for 32 years. He started as a plumbing teacher and ended his long career as Vice-President of Apprenticeship. When he was not working at the college, he spent his time helping family and friends build houses and cottages, or working in the garage on his many cars from a TR3 to a Comet '67. His lifelong passion was to be an exceptional golfer, and he was successful. Golf allowed him to develop many wonderful friendships. He was an outstanding teacher and mentor to all. Ken had the ability to draw out the best in people. Poppa was a man of few words, but when he spoke it was with wisdom. He lived the end of his life with courage, courtesy, and compassion. His guidance and quiet presence will be greatly missed. We have sorrow for losing him here, but joy that he is in the presence of those he loved so dearly. Family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., on Wednesday from 7-9pm. A funeral service to celebrate Ken's life will be held in St. John's Anglican Church, 80 Main Street, Port Dalhousie on Thursday at 1pm. Burial in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial remembrances to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Chateau Gardens Nursing Home for their compassion, care and kindness.
