Obituary of Mary Chornobay
CHORNOBAY, Mary (nee Baraniuk)
Born in Mountain Road, Manitoba in 1913.
Passed away peacefully, one month shy of her 97th birthday, on Friday, July 30th, at the Heidehof Home.
Predeceased by her husband Paul (1976), her brothers John, Bill, Andrew, Walter, Roy and Leo, and sister Tillie. Much loved mother of Anne (Abe) Teichroeb and Nestor (Yvonne). Cherished Baba of Doug Teichroeb of Surrey, BC, Krista Teichroeb of Toronto, Paul Chornobay of Toronto and Liane Chornobay of Whitby. Also survived by her sisters Olga, Pearl, Irene, Julia and Carol, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary and her husband Paul were founding members of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mary was also a founding member of St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she was an original "Pyrohy Baba". An avid gardener and a terrific cook, she enjoyed sharing with family and friends. Mary had also travelled extensively.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the C2 Nursing Staff at Heidehof for their loving care.
Mary's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5-9pm. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St John Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Rd, on Wednesday, August 4th at 11am. There will be a private family burial prior to the service. Panachyda will be celebrated in the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:30pm.
If desired, memorial donations to the St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
