Remembering you
There will be a millions stories to tell about Poppo. His love of his garden and his preference for Calico kittens. chasing little children and letting them crawl all over him with a grin on his face. Too many things. I will remember fondly.

My Fathers Gift
When I was a young kid of 16, I was sitting in the kitchen early in the morning having coffee with my Dad; my father always made perked coffee a throwback from the past and most likely the reason that I love coffee so much, strong coffee. I always got up early to spend time with my father before he went into work, its something that I have continued to do well into my forties. One morning we began talking politics, he†™s a Liberal and I†™m a Conservative it was about that time when the hostages were captured in Iran and Ronald Regan was campaigning on war and bringing back the draft. The two of us were sitting in the kitchen sipping his strong coffee when I said to my dad †œthat there is no way that I would sign up to go to war for these Politicians. They tax us, they lie to us and they do little to help the people that actually built this country, why would you sign up to defend these guys? Why did you bother to do it Dad?† At that moment my Fathers face went blank he placed his coffee cup on the kitchen table and turned his face towards the floor and stared, motionless. It felt like ten long minutes had gone by, but it may only have been a few seconds, time was still, I knew I opened a wound, a bad one. I knew I crossed the line, I never felt that PIT in my stomach as I did at that point in my life and truthfully I†™ve never felt it that way since and just when I was going to asked him if everything was alright he simply said in a soft voice †œSo you wouldn†™t have to son, I did it so you wouldn†™t have to† with that he picked up his coffee took a few sips and proceeded to get dressed for work.
If you†™re lucky and I mean really lucky as a kid, your father is your Hero, he can do anything, he†™s good at everything, and he can make your world right again. As an adult you realise how foolish that type of thinking is, as a man with my own family I realise how blessed I have been, my father really was my hero in a lot of ways. To this day I never had to go too, or fight in any war.
He gave me a great gift that I have never taken for granted.
