Dear Trudy,
My heartfelt condolences on your loss of a wonderful and loving sister. I was only recently made aware of Mary Ellen's passing and am still stunned. You probably won't remember me, but Donna, Mary Ellen and I were fast friends in high school, and I spent many an evening at your house. She will live forever in my heart.May you find some comfort in your memories of her.

I first met Mary Ellen when I was planning my wedding 25 years ago. We were planning our wedding and were at St. Julia`s when I first heard Mary Ellen sing.. She had the voice of an angel. We were married at St. Thomas Moore Church in Niagara Falls and thankfully Mary Ellen was able to sing. Her voice filled the church and made our wedding such a special and incredible day. I say Mary Ellen some 12 years later at my nephew`s Confirmation at St. Alfred`s Church. The Church was full and I could not see her but I knew it was her as soon as I heard her sing. It was nice to have an opportunity to speak with her and to let her know just how wonderful it was to have her sing and be part of our wedding.
Please know that Mary Ellen will always remain in our hearts and you will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

I was truly saddened to hear that Mary Ellen passed away. Sorry Trudy that I was not able to attend the memorial service. I have such great memories of our friendship which began in 9C at Denis Morris a "few" years ago. Mary Ellen was a sweet and funny girl, a loyal and caring friend, and a very talented musician. My sincere condolences to you, your family and to Donna who lost a great friend.

With our sincere condolences, and may her voice and talent continue in heaven. She brought such musical grace and talent to the world and equal parts laughter and compassion, framed in a beautiful smile and twinkling eyes. I have been gone a long time from St. Julia's Parish but in recent memory, she played at my Uncle's funeral (Bill Clifford) and my mother's, (Carmel Clifford) though it was less recent. My family had so appreciated her beautiful singing of Ave Maria, my mother's favourite, and performing Amazing Grace, with my son and his bagpipes. My sympathies especially to Trudy; it has been a long time since I have seen you! So sorry for your loss. God Bless.

Although I have not seen Mary Ellen for a number of years, her beautiful voice rings in my ears as I write, and her kindness and compassion remain unforgotten. I was privileged to call her friend. Mary Ellen, you have sung for so long to the Lord you could not see, and helped us to praise Him. Sing forever now in His presence, filled with joy and peace. With love, Bev Johnson, St. Patrick's, Caledonia.

Hi George,
Thank you very much for the notice about Mary Ellen. She was a special lady who used her gifts to bless so many. In her own way Mary Ellen contributed greatly to the success of the team at GDFC throughout the years. Her "coaching" of many directors on the music component of a celebration helped to truly minister to families.
Regards,
Tim

Our dearest, dearest first cousins, Jim and Trudy:Blessedly, my own sister, June Roberts Bell, has been visiting with us this week. Since learning of Mai's passing, there have been tears in our eyes, our hearts are broken,we have hugged each other more tightly than ever, spoken lovingly of her - and of you two - wished that we were there, along with you, during this sorrowful time. Mai was the most special of ladies.....elegant, funny, a mite irreverent, talented beyond belief. One can only imagine the joy in the Heavenly Chorus as she plays the mighty organ, joins in the singing of hallelujias! How she will be missed. We join you in love and sorrow as we mourn her passing, celebrate her wonderful spirit and life, Maybes and Bill

My sincere condolences on the loss of such a beautiful lady. In my former capacity as Music Director at St Denis Church, I had the privilege of working with Mary Ellen often for weddings, funerals, the Diocesan choir, NPM, etc. She taught me so much and her wonderfully irreverent sense of humour made tough times so much easier to get through. May songs of the angels welcome you, my dear friend, and I hope you have your "Pope shoes" with you so you can re-name them your "God shoes." Rest in peace; you are truly loved.

We wish to extended our most heartfelt condolences to the McQuinn family and to everyone who loved Mary Ellen. What a great lady she was and you couldn†™t ask for a better friend either. She was always ready to laugh with you…or cry, if needed. There was a lot more laughing with Mary Ellen and yet she made every solemn occasion more poignant with her wonderfully prayerful singing and playing… and directing. Our choir( her family) have lost our marvelous, musical Matriarch in body. Our repertoire( Mary Ellen†™s musical selections distilled by decades of experience)is evidence of her joyful spirit, and her faith and hope in the resurrection. May we, in her memory, and with her music, continue to give glory to God. Until we meet again.

Trudy and family; I remember the sound of the Piano from your home on Welland Ave. during our days at Lyman Street School, then at Denis Morris and the music of the Beatles, Mary Ellen so loved the music. I would see Mary Ellen usually at church Weddings & Funerals and it was always a pleasure to talk for a while and be reaquainted. May she rest in peace, but we will miss her angelic tones and her music.

My parents were long time members at St Julia Church...and fans of Mary Ellen. At my mother's funeral in 2007, Mary Ellen sang "Ave Maria" (my mother's favourite) and to this day, no one could sing it better. Mary Ellen was amazing.

I am heartbroken to hear of Mary Ellen's passing! I worked at George Darte Funeral Chapel with Mary Ellen a couple of years ago, while I was covering a maternity leave. I cherish fond memories of our little chats whenever she would come into the funeral home to play and sing (oh, how she could sing!) for a funeral service. A beautiful voice, a beautiful soul.

I have been blessed to be Mary Ellen's friend and to have heard a voice of an angel here on earth. Now she has lead the way for us all to join the choir of angels. She is so informative, talented and the best friend anyone could ask for. She would say, "God Bless you all" now let me say to you Mary Ellen, "GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU IN HIS ARMS".

Mary Ellen, you shone like no other, you shared your gifts so generously, you cared for your choir family before yourself, you brought out the best in each person you touched! On learning of your passing Saturday, we remember the person who's music blessed our wedding 34 years ago, the person who was there on the occasions of our children's first communions and confirmations, the person who was present at the liturgies when my parents passed away. If you were present for our family, I can't help but think of how many other families over so many years benefited from your gifts of music in the important events in their lives. More recently, on the encouragement of my son Paul who is a member of the St. Julia choir, and who thinks of you as a second Mom, I became a fortunate voice in the wonderful chorus you assembled. You have been an inspiration to me, you have encouraged, praised, and brought a novice voice along. I am so fortunate to have known you and to have felt your true friendship. For all that you have given in your life on earth, you are now experiencing the greatest gift, the gift of eternal life. I'm sure my Dad and Mom are there with all who shared in your life and went before you. Keep inspiring us Mary Ellen, keep singing with us, we hear you loud and clear!! Rest in peace!

Dear Trudy, Jim and Family,
M.E. was the most wonderful lady we've ever met. She was always upbeat, brought us cookies from Timmy's when she came for a service and was the epitomy of a "True Lady", even though she sent me the most outragious e-mails, that only she and I would share. We are both so taken aback of her sudden passing, but now she is up in the heavens, directing the Choirs of Angels and playing that mighty organ as only she could do. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched, and it's only two weeks ago that I phoned her, and we had such a great conversation. Our heartfelt sympathy lays with you and your family, knowing that she is is a far better place now. Rest Peacefully, our sweet friend!

Dear Trudy, Jim, Michael, Deborah,Julia, Maggie and Matthew. We were so sorry to hear this sad news. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in these days. Mary Ellen was such a gift to the St. Julia's community and will be dearly missed. I enjoyed my 'post-mass chats' with Mary Ellen when visiting my parents - always such a friendly 'homecoming'. Mary Ellen's beautiful music graced many special liturgies for our family and made each mass a more prayerful experience for all. She has most certainly been welcomed home. May God's love, through the care of family and friends, bring each of you comfort in this time.

Dear Trudy and Jim:
Although our world is gray, dim and heartbroken at the moment there is a new shining star in the heavens and she†™s probably already directing the choir. We were so sorry to hear of Mary Ellen†™s passing. She was the kindest, caring, loyal, charitable, very humorous and talented friend one could ever imagine having. We always looked forward to and enjoyed our celebrating Christmas whether it was in April, May, June or October....whenever we were all able to be in the same city at the same time. I was so pleased that she was able to carry on the tradition of driving Henry†™s Buick with him secretly and silently by her side and keeping our promise to him of avoiding the potholes. Trudy and Jim please know that you are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers as you face these sad days ahead of you. When at times your grief seems too over powering then open that treasure chest of memories and you will never be alone because that happy impish face with the beautiful Irish complexion and twinkling eyes will be there smiling back at you. Love, Sandy and Clarence xoxo
