Betty Norton

Obituary of Betty Estelle Norton

NORTON, Betty Estelle (nee Franklin) May 1, 1928 - March 5, 2013 With great sadness we announce the passing of Betty at the St. Catharines General Hospital-NHS following a brief illness that she fought with courage and dignity. Loving mother of Michael Fortin and proud grandmother of Alanis Michelle and Blair Alexander John. Dear sister of Fay Franklin. She will be missed by "Little One", her beloved cat. Betty was predeceased by her husbands Maurice Fortin and Don Norton. She was involved in music from an early age in choirs, and in her late teens she sang in a trio with a local orchestra. She was also involved in minstrel shows which were popular at that time. In the late fifties and early sixties she moved to Tampa, Florida, working for a Psychology firm where she was fortunate to have her bosses pay for her to attend University in Tampa, working towards her degree in Psychology. She left Florida in the early seventies with her son but since that time, kept in touch with her boss at the Psychology firm. She has kept in touch with the family on a regular basis. Since 2000, she and her sister have belonged to the Evergreen Singers in Niagara on the Lake, where she sang tenor. She loved music with all her heart and hopefully, she is now singing with the Angels in Heaven. Betty's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Saturday, March 9th from 11am-12:45pm. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 1pm in the funeral home chapel. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
