Obituary of John Norman Rosetti
Rosetti, John Norman - Peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday December 1, 2010 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 72nd year with his cherished family by his side. Lovingly and sadly missed by Jeannette, his wife of over 51 years. Father and friend to Bob, Denise (Rod) Barron, Dorothy (Colin) Suggett, and Barry (Diana). Special Grandpa to Grant (Robin) Barron, John (Melissa) Barron, James Barron, Iris Suggett, Lily Suggett and Leah and great Grandpa to Gabriel and Seraphim Barron. Also survived by his father Jim, brother Jim (Margaret) and sisters Carol Nadon (Mac), and Janice Stalker (Robert) and many nieces and nephews and close friends. Predeceased by his mother Constance.
John was born to Jim and Connie Rosetti in Fort William, Ontario on June 22, 1939. From that day, his parent†™s nurturing love, strong ethics, faith and values where instilled in John and held him in good stead throughout his life.
John excelled in his school days, finishing at the top of his high school class at the early age of 17. During this time, John also undertook any job that offered itself, from sewer repair and cleaning to delivering groceries (on different days of course). John met Jeannette as he was finishing high school and even though her sisters were firmly of the opinion that he was a scoundrel, they married in 1959 and quickly formed a family with four children.
John†™s modest circumstances and growing family didn†™t stop him from pursuing his degree as a Chartered Accountant through a 5 year correspondence course with Queens. During this time he continued to work tirelessly for his family, driving cab, collecting debts and evaluating risks (aka winning at wagers).
With his degree, John went to work for the government in municipal affairs and in just a few years, he became a well-known and respected expert in his field with responsibility covering all of Northern Ontario from Sault Ste. Marie to the Manitoba border. Seeking further challenges and growth, he moved into the private sector, leading his family to southern Ontario in 1968 and eventually to their current homestead in St. Catharines in 1970.
John founded his own firm in 1979, forming the beginnings of Rosetti and Bowley Chartered Accountants. John saw the potential and spirit of his staff and mentored them to grow and succeed. In his partner Karl Bowley, he found a friend, colleague and successor.
John was active in the community and passionate about his involvements there. He was a past president of Kinsmen and was a long standing member of the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. In those organizations (and others), he did extensive fund raising, organized many charitable events and lent his particular skills to the benefit of all. John always looked out for his fellow man.
From his avid golfing, boating and extensive travelling, John found a great joy, but that joy was exceeded only by that which he derived from his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
