Obituary of Dr. Ervin Theodore Oinonen

OINONEN, Ervin "Ted" It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Dad on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the age of 70. Erv was born to Thelma and Ted Oinonen of Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was the proud father of five children: Kirsten (Russ), Erik (Linda), Anders (Susy), Brittany, and Meaghan. Erv completed his medical education at the University of Manitoba and a residency in California. He began practice in Kenora, Ontario, experiencing the challenges and rewards a small town doctor faces in his daily duties. He then moved to St. Catharines, Ontario where he maintained a successful family practice for close to forty years. Erv never retired. He was committed to the health and well-being of his patients. He was also a passionate participant and supporter of the sport of rowing throughout his life. Ultimately he loved the company of others in all that he did. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Kaija and Seija, Theodore and Natalie, and his loving sister, Myrtle Korkola, who compassionately cared for him in the last month of his life. Erv will be buried at the family farm in Nolalu, a place where he spent time with his grandparents, and, as a young boy, explored the magic of the boreal forest. He will be missed for his humour, his story-telling, and his appreciation of life. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ervin's life will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, October 25th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
