Obituary of Frank Kowell

KOWELL, Frank (Kowalski) Peacefully with his loving family by his side at Hospice Niagara, on June 16, 2009, in his 93rd year. Frank passed away after a brave battle with Cancer. Survived by his sister Sophie Hughes (Kowalski), three nieces Dianne (Paul) Perron, Ann "Bunny" (Greg) Baker, Cathy (Dennis) Hills and his three nephews Denis "D" (Bonnie) Hughes, Barry (Kathrine) Kowalski and Ronald (Mary) Kowalski. He is also survived by seven great nieces, five great nephews, two great-great nieces and one great-great nephews. Frank is predeceased by his wife Bernadette, his long time companion Ellen Owen, his parents Teofil and Anna Kowalski and his three brothers and their spouses John (Violet), Joseph (Helen) and Walter (Mary). Frank spent his working career in the office at Ferranti-Packard and was a Second World War Veteran. Frank's wish was fulfilled by starting and ended his life on Ontario St. , St. Catharines. He was a devoted member of St. Julia's Church and enjoyed its community of parishioners. As a younger man Frank was an avid golfer and bowler, and he always enjoyed attending horse races with his dear friend Don Page. The family appreciates all the care and compassion provided for Frank by the doctors and nursing staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital and especially Shaver Hospital and Hospice Niagara. A special thank you to Msrg. Schaefer, Msgr. Pizzacalla and the members of St. Julia's Parish for their prayers and support. Frank is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be offered Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, 2009 at St. Julia's Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations be made to Hospice Niagara.
