Predeceased by his older brothers Cyril, George, and Ivor . Born in Abertillary, Wales, emigrated to Canada with his family in 1930 and served in the RCAF in WWII, he worked for GM of Canada for 46 years retiring in 1984 as Director of Manufacturing. He was a Boy Scout leader, founding member of the St. Catharines Tennis Club, a member of the St. Catharines Golf Club and a member of the Probus Club. He served on the board of the Hotel Dieu Hospital. He loved to garden, was known for his seasonal vegetables, enjoyed playing cribbage and bridge with his friends and was grateful for all the friends and associates he had in St. Catharines that made his life so rich. The family will receive friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of David's life will be held on Thursday, April 8th at 11 am. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 53 Church St. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Catharines General Hospital and Hospice Niagara . Many thanks to Doctors and Nurses of St. Catharines General Hospital and CCAC for their splendid care. He will always be remembered as heading to the zucchini patch in wellington boots, a spring in his step, whistling a tune. A farm boy at heart. A life well lived, indeed.
