Obituary of Joseph Welgan

WELGAN, Joseph Frank, of St. Catharines, ON passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Douglas Memorial Hospital of natural causes with his family at his side. Joseph is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda, his brothers, Tony (Marianne), Michael (Irene) and sister, Vera Welgan -- his son, Leslie (Deloris) and daughters, Susan (Bill) Penner, Lucia (Rick) McCulloch and Julie (Paul) Moiseff -- grandsons, Jae and Joe Penner, Ben McCulloch, Chris (Sarah), Daniel and David Moiseff. He is predeceased by grandson Neil McCulloch. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren Colby Penner and Hannah Moiseff and many extended family and friends. Born in Winnipeg, MB, October 16, 1925, he moved to St. Catharines in the late 1930†™s. He joined the Canadian Army as a Gunner in early 1944 and served in France, Belgium and Germany from September 1944 until June 1945. He was a past member of the Canadian Legion, Polish Branch #418. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years camping at Whitetail Lodge in Noelville, ON. The family would like to express a special thank you to the wonderful nurses at Douglas Memorial Hospital for their loving attention during the last few months. Family and friends will be received at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. on Sunday December 27 from 2-4 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Monday December 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery will take place at Noon on Tuesday for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MS Society of Canada, an affliction that has touched the family deeply.
