Obituary of Antonina Magdalena Sowa
With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Antonina Sowa (née Bartoch), who peacefully entered eternal rest on February 17, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
Antonina was born in Poland and built a life rooted in faith, love, and dedication to her family. She married her beloved husband, the late Edward Sowa, in Poland before immigrating to Canada in 1973, where they built their home and life together. They first settled in Beamsville before making St. Catharines their home in 1999. In her later years, she moved closer to family, receiving care and companionship.
She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Laura Kurpis (Nick). Antonina was predeceased by her siblings and is survived by her beloved sister, Katarzyna Semenowicz of Poland, as well as many cherished extended family members.
Proud of her Polish heritage, Antonina was an active member of SPK Branch 27 (Polish Combatants Association in Canada), honouring Polish traditions and veterans. Her Catholic faith was central to her life, and she found strength and friendship in the Rosary group at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, where she prayed, cooked, and shared in community.
A visitation will be held at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 10:00 to 12:00. A Rosary service will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 5 Oblate Street, St. Catharines, at 12:30, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00. Interment will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the PSWs, nurses, and staff at Post Inn Village in Oakville for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish or the Alzheimer Society in Antonina’s memory.
She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
