Obituary of Joy Ilene Mackenzie
Joy Mackenzie (nee. Beckett) October 6, 1955-January 27, 2025
Suddenly, as the result of a tragic accident, Joy was taken home to be with the Lord, her Saviour and Redeemer. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 42 years, Timothy, and two cherished daughters, Karen and Laura. Joy is predeceased by her parents Stinson and Mildred Beckett. Joy is also survived by her sister Barb (Bob) Gabriel and brother Ken Beckett (Lynn, predeceased). She is a treasured Aunt to Susan Gabriel, Joel Gabriel (Heather, Noah and Emily), Richard (Stacy and Josh), Jimmy (predeceased) and Jeffery (Robin and Autumn), and a much-loved cousin to Sharon (Ron) Muntz and Janet (John) Ham. Joy is fondly remembered by her Mother-in-Law, Muriel Mackenzie and those in the Campbell, Mackenzie, Rocheleau, Parkinson and Reid families. Joy is also warmly remembered by many friends. Joy worked at the St. Catharine’s Standard at the circulation desk from 1975 to 1985, leaving this position to become a homemaker. Joy made it her life’s mission to serve the Lord and others in all that she did; whether it be through teaching Sunday School over many years, or using her talents of cooking, baking and knitting to show others love. Although we grieve at this sudden and tragic loss, we do so with hope, knowing that “absent from the body, present with the Lord.” The family would like to extend thanks to those who have upheld us in prayer. We would also like to thank the many doctors and nurses at the Marotta Family Hospital and the Hamilton General Hospital, who fought for her during her time of greatest need. In memory of Joy, donations can be given to Immanuel Baptist Church Cameroon Missions or a charity of your choice. Visitation (Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 2-4 pm) and funeral (Monday, February 3, 2025 at 1pm) at George Darte Funeral Chapel, burial to be determined.
