Obituary of Eliana Bruni

Eliana Bruni (née Voros)
November 21, 1946 – November 25, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eliana Bruni (née Voros) on November 25, 2024, at the age of 78. Eliana lived a life full of grace, resilience, and trust in the beauty of “whatever will be.”

Eliana was born in Ethiopia on November 21, 1946 into a Greek family . From the very beginning, Eliana shared her journey with her twin sister Mary, and their bond was as natural and unbreakable as the lyrics of a timeless refrain. Their connection was the kind of closeness that gave rhythm to both of their lives—a lifelong duet of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

As life unfolded, Eliana’s path led her to love and marriage to Cisco Bruni, an Ethiopian-born Italian. Together, they created a family rooted in unconditional love. But life, much like the song she came to love, held its share of unexpected verses. When the civil war disrupted their lives, Eliana led her family to Canada, joining her siblings. With courage and determination, they started anew, showing that no matter what the future held, she could rise to meet it.

Her greatest role was as a parent and grandparent. It was a role she lived with unparalleled devotion, one that she had to eventually carry alone after the love of her life suddenly passed away. To her two children, she was loving and selfless, always going above and beyond to ensure their happiness. To her four grandsons, she was “Aya,” a grandmother whose love knew no bounds. She didn’t just guide; she gave endlessly, weaving joy and comfort into every moment she spent with them.

In later years, when faced with the challenges of a stroke and dementia, Eliana’s spirit remained as strong as ever. Music became her solace, and Que Sera, Sera became more than a song; it became her mantra. It reminded us that life’s beauty lies in accepting its mysteries, trusting in its unfolding, and cherishing each moment.

Eliana’s final years were marked by the extraordinary love of her twin sister, who cared for her daily with a devotion as steadfast as the bond they shared since birth. Their relationship was rich and harmonious, a duet that no hardship could silence.

Eliana leaves behind her children, Letizia (Dave) and Piero (Brenda); her four grandsons, Matthew (Danielle), Cisco (Marlee), Ryersen and Quinton; her great grandson Holden and highly anticipated great granddaughter; her twin sister Mary (Franz), brother Mike (Judy), and countless others whose lives she touched. She has reunited with her husband Cisco; her parents Anna and Eftimios; and her sister Helen (Bruno). Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and selflessness—a life that embodied the gentle wisdom of her favourite refrain:

“Que sera, sera—whatever will be, will be.”

As we say goodbye, we carry her melody in our hearts, forever grateful for the beautiful tune she brought to all our lives. May she rest in peace, her life a song that will never fade.

If so desired, donations made in Eliana's memory to the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated by her family.
