Mother to All: Lucia D’Ambrosio It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lucia D’Ambrosio (b Vendittelli) at 9 am on Saturday October 9th , 2021, in St. Catharines at the age of 95 Years. Born on January 1st, 1926 in the village of Castellino del Biferno, Campobasso Province, Italy, Lucia emigrated to Canada with her husband Lino D’Ambrosio (who pre-deceased her in 2001) and their first son in 1954, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax and then settling in St. Catharines where she lived the rest of her life. One of 13 children of Anna-Emilia Nero and Nicola Vendittelli, Lucia grew up in the village and was a practicing Roman Catholic all her life. She was raised with her siblings in the countryside growing food, raising goats, and learned to knit and weave. Lucia was known for her exquisite wool sweaters and linens, with commissions for these helping support the family through WW2. After the war she brought these skills to Canada where her gifts of children’s clothes and blankets are prized possessions of countless relatives and friends. Her resilience, dedication to family and her formidable organizational and domestic talents were the backbone of the extended family that grew over the decades. She was a confident matriarch and extended her mothering and generosity to everyone with whom she, her husband, children and relatives came into contact. Her home was a refuge and her kindness was support for family, friends and acquaintances. She has often been called ‘Everybody’s Mother’ by friends and family alike. Always ready to feed and counsel whoever walked through her door, Lucia loved gardening, cooking and baking, both daily and, with her sister and cousins, for numerous religious and family celebratory feasts. With her sister Esterina and sister-in-law Maria, cousins and later her daughters-in-law, she was the team leader for group cooking and the annual canning and preserving of foods. As a life partner with her beloved Lino, her thrift and management were essential to his success as an auto mechanic, his auto repair business extending in the 1980’s to her son and now to her grandson. She was proud to be Italian and an emigre, learning to speak English, driving her own cars and running her household in a succession of new homes they built in different north-end neighbourhoods of St. Catharines over the years. Lucia, or Lucy as she was often called, is survived by her sons and their families: Francesco, wife Gwenyth Howey and Lucia’s Grandsons Max (partner Isabella Laird) and Rem (partner Mia Vandenschrick) and Giovanni/ John, wife Cindy Jacob and children; Lucia’s Granddaughter Lisa, husband Gary Demeo, Lucia’s great-granddaughter Veda and Great-grandson Remy; grandson son John Jr. (partner Alexis Nagy) and grandson Bobby (partner Megan Jewell). In Canada, she is survived by her sister Esterina De Lisio (husband Lucio, Lucia’s nephew Luigi De Lisio (wife Louise) and children Michael and Amanda; and her brother Enrico Vendittelli, wife Maria, Lucia’s nephews Lain (children Nicola and Siena), Gino and Bruno Vendittelli, wife Jane and sons Henry and Jack; nephew Angelo Persichilli, wife Lina and children Nicola and Tina. In Italy Lucia also has numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, who knew and loved her and with whom she maintained relationships over the decades during her and Lino’s numerous trips back to their homeland. Her legacy of guidance, diligence, determination and love have positively influenced all who knew her, and she will always be loved and remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations made to The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
