Jerome (Jerry) Lalonde 1931-2020 Jerome Edward Lalonde was born in the small town of Penetanguishene, Ontario on Christmas morning, 1931. He liked to tell the story of how his siblings and cousins fought over whose baby he was when they found him tucked under the Christmas tree when the families returned from Midnight Mass. Jerome grew up in a loud and loving, Franco-Ontarian family. He was the third-born of thirteen children. Quiet and studious as a boy, he showed an early flare for drawing. He decided to pursue art as a career — a brave choice for a penniless farm boy — so off he went at the age of 17 to Toronto, on a scholarship to the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD). After graduating with honours, he moved to St. Catharines, where he found work as a graphic artist. With a friend from art school (Don Williamson), he eventually co-founded an advertising firm: Williamson & Lalonde Advertising Services Ltd. He was a graphic artist and vice-president of the firm, taking it from the “Mad Men“ days of advertising all the way to the computer age, to which he adapted seamlessly. Jerry was an industrious, happy man, who always whistled while he worked. He could fix almost anything, or at least Jerry-rig anything to serve his purpose. But his true passion was painting landscapes and sketching portraits. When his children were small, he would come home from work, change out of his suit, scarf down a quick dinner and then head out again to do portraits all evening at a petting zoo. Most summer weekends found him either at an art show surrounded by his paintings, or hiking the woods and ravines of the Niagara region, taking photos of riverbanks, lakeshores, dilapidated barns and waterfalls. He often took one or two of his children along on these excursions. He sold hundreds of his paintings and won many prizes for his work, but more important to him was the fact that so many of his friends and extended family members have his paintings and portraits on the walls of their homes. His spirit lives on through those works. Jerry was a devoted husband for 50 years to the late Theresa Lalonde (née Kehoe), father to Christopher (Laurie Chesworth) of Victoria, Kenneth (Michelle Woulfe) of Toronto, Lisa (John Woulfe) of Ottawa, Michelle (André Picard) of Montreal, and Doug (Tasha Menary) of Toronto, and beloved grandfather to Peter, Riley, Lise, Zoé, Molly, Michael, Kieran, Emmet, Natalie, Anaïs, Raphaëlle and Maeve. Jerry was an avid tennis player, and had only very recently given up his favourite sport, playing two or three times a week well into his 88th year. He also played bridge several times a week, a hobby that kept him mentally sharp and socially connected to many good friends after Theresa passed away in 2009. A school board trustee and a member of the Knights of Columbus, a devout Catholic who attended mass daily, a volunteer for several charities, Jerry was a pretty straight arrow. But those who knew him best will remember and cherish his silly side the most. Reserved and dignified in his daily life, Jerry was transformed when called upon to entertain. His ever-evolving Charlie Farquharson imitations, in costume, were priceless. He knew the lyrics to more Irish songs than most Irishmen. He could play the harmonica and the spoons, tell a story or a joke in any accent required. And his voice singing around a campfire was the sweetest sound. It breaks our hearts to think we will not hear it again. Jerry died on Friday, July 10th (Theresa’s birthday), of a heart attack. He spoke to his daughters on the phone after eating his breakfast, reclined in his chair for a nap and did not wake up. We will hold a private funeral mass at the George Darte Funeral Home in St. Catharines on Friday, July 17 at 4 p.m., with only immediate family present. We are very sad not to be able to hug you all and receive your condolences in person, but we don’t wish to put anyone at risk or make people feel obliged to travel at this time. We will hold a proper wake for my dad, hopefully with lots of singing and hugging, when it is safe to do so. May he rest, as he lived, in peace.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
