Obituary of Edward Zwolak

Edward Francis Zwolak – February 11, 1937 – February 26, 2018

Edward Francis Zwolak, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Monday February 26, 2018.  Edward is survived by Eleanor, wife of 55 years, daughters Mary (loving partner Adrian Hallock), Laura, son Michael, and grandsons Aidan, Nicholas, Brian, and Kyle. Beloved brother of Richard (Jennifer) and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Sabina (Casey) Doda.

Ed worked at the St. Catharines Standard for 38 years, having served the last 15 years as Advertising Director. He also served on the St. Catharines & District Chamber of Commerce, the St. Catharines YMCA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, was board member and past chairman of the Newspaper Advertising Executives Association of Canada, the Newspaper Marketing Bureau, and the Canadian Daily Newspaper Association.  In addition, Ed served on numerous committees including the Green Ribbon Trail Committee, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Canadian Arthritis Society, the Canadian Heart Fund, the United Way, the St. Catharines Downtown Association, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) – St. Catharines Branch, and the Probus Club. Ed’s entrepreneurial spirit was reflected through his many business ventures (Ornamental Place, Speakers’ Forum of Canada, Seniors’ Services, CARP Niagara Chapter, Niagara Golf Guide and Seniors Review).

An avid sports enthusiast, over the years Ed held memberships at the YMCA, White Oaks Fitness & Racquet Club, St. Catharines Golf & Country Club, and Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club. He always looked forward to times spent with friends in their regular “Tramps” walking/cycling excursions around the Niagara region.  This brought great joy to both he and Ellie.

Most notably, Ed was a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and a proud first generation Polish Canadian. He lived his life passionately and was dedicated to his family and community.  He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for all services and support provided through CCAC in helping our dad as primary care giver to Ellie.

Please join us to celebrate Ed’s amazing life at George Darte Chapel, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Friday March 2, 2018 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm.
