Obituary of Malcolm Arthur "Mel" Bowen

Bowen, Malcolm Arthur Passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2002 at the St. Catharines Hotel Dieu Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, in his 70th year. He inspired all that knew him by his strong spirit for living life to the fullest on his own terms, despite the many obstacles he had to overcome in his life. He has deeply touched all that knew him. Dearly loved husband of Joan (Smerdon) Bowen for 47 years. Loving father of Donna (Bowen) Willard and husband Gary of Cambridge, Ontario. Proud Papa of Robyn and Brooke Willard of Cambridge. Loving son on Mabel (Queenie) Bowen, of St. Catharines and predeceased by his father Archie Bowen. He will be sadly missed by his sisters; Muriel (Bowen) Stevenson of St. Catharines and Delores (Bowen) Losier and husband George of Killaloe, Ontario. Cherished brother-in-law of Larry Smerdon and wife Christine of St. Catharines. Predeceased by sister-in-law Shirley Smerdon, Sudbury, Ontario and many cousins. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews; Peggy, Bill, Eric, Tom, Kim, Mark, Jim and Sheila, and their families. Malcolm was a long time manager of Garden City Auto Glass of St. Catharines, and worked at the Falconbridge Nickel Mines before moving to St. Catharines from Garson, Ontario in 1955. He volunteered for many years at the Winter Club of St. Catharines, was an avid camper and spent many hours in his wood and stained-glass workshop making treasures for others. Special thanks to the many nurses that so lovingly cared for Malcolm during his many hospital stays. Thanks to Dr. Lewkowitz for her many years of care and friendship, as well as the many specialists. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 1pm. In his memory, donations to the Hotel Dieu Oncology Department, St. Catharines would be appreciated by the family.
